The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Site Manager to oversee the delivery of a major hospital decarbonisation programme at a live healthcare facility in Boston, Lincolnshire. The project involves the phased replacement of existing steam infrastructure with Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) systems, incorporating biomass boilers, air source heat pumps, gas-fired plant, thermal storage solutions, and associated primary distribution networks. The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing the mechanical installation package across multiple plant rooms and energy centres, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme, quality, and technical requirements. This is a technically challenging project requiring strong knowledge of commercial and industrial mechanical services installations within a live hospital environment. Key Responsibilities
Manage all mechanical building services installations across multiple phases of the decarbonisation programme.
Coordinate the installation of LTHW systems, district heating networks, energy centres, biomass plant, air source heat pumps, gas-fired boilers, pressurisation units, buffer vessels, plate heat exchangers, pumps, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
Oversee the installation of large-diameter carbon steel pipework ranging from 10" distribution mains through to terminal connections.
Manage welding, fabrication, testing, flushing, chemical cleaning, commissioning, and handover activities.
Ensure compliance with project specifications, HTM guidance, healthcare standards, and industry best practice.
Coordinate subcontractors, direct labour, commissioning specialists, and supply chain partners.
Review technical drawings, schematics, specifications, and coordinated BIM models.
Monitor installation quality through inspections, QA documentation, and ITP processes.
Chair site coordination meetings and provide progress updates to senior project teams.
Manage site health and safety, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and company procedures.
Liaise closely with hospital stakeholders to minimise disruption to critical services during phased changeovers.
Requirements
Proven track record delivering large-scale mechanical building services projects valued in excess of £5m.
Extensive experience managing commercial, healthcare, industrial, or energy centre projects.
Strong technical understanding of: LTHW systems
Steam replacement projects
Biomass heating systems
Air source heat pumps
District heating networks
Large-scale plant room installations
Carbon steel pipework systems
Pumps, valves, pressurisation and water treatment systems
Experience working within live healthcare environments is highly desirable.
Ability to manage multiple work fronts and coordinate large installation teams.
Strong understanding of commissioning and project handover processes.

CSCS Black Card or Equivalent
First Aid at Work
HNC/HND or NVQ Level 3+ in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
Relevant trade background within Mechanical Building Services
