We are looking for a committed and empathetic General Practitioner who possesses strong interpersonal skills and can communicate clearly and effectively with both patients and colleagues. The successful candidate will enjoy working collaboratively within a supportive and forward‑thinking team, focused on delivering high‑quality care and services to patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage a patient caseload and address a wide range of health needs, ensuring the highest standards of care for both registered and temporary patients.
  • Checking and signing repeat prescription. Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Undertaking home visits when required.
  • Actioning blood results.
  • Participating and supporting in practice meetings.
  • The postholder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within Primary Care.

About us

Ystradgynlais Group Practice are offering an opportunity to join our practice based over 3 sites at Pengorof, Ystalyfera and Abercrave. We currently have a team of 9 Partners and 2 Salaried GPs, we have a multidisciplinary team to include pharmacists, advanced care nurses, practice nurses, HCAs and phlebotomy services. We also have our Cluster Pharmacy Team and Physiotherapists.

We are a GP training practice, and offer many enhanced services. We also have medical and nurse students.

We are an extremely friendly and supportive team, with a patient list size of 12,500.

Job responsibilities

  • Training Practice: Support GP trainees, F1 doctors, Medical and Nursing students.
  • Enhanced services: Joint injections, minor surgery, care homes, chronic disease management and many more.
  • Flexible Consultations: Mix of telephone and face‑to‑face appointments
  • EMIS System, WCCG, GPTR

Job responsibilities (detail)

  • Variety of duties including telephone consultations, surgery consultations queries, home visits, reviewing test results, paperwork.
  • Recording clear consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Issuing of computer generated repeat and acute prescriptions.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary whenever clinically appropriate.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • In general the post‑holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

  • Newly Qualified Doctors are welcome to apply

Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical Degree from an accredited institution and valid medical licence to practice as a General Practitioner.
  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council and be on the list established in accordance with the provisions of the National Health Service (Performers List) Regulations 2004 or such successor Regulations as may, from time to time be appropriate to your employment.

Desirable

  • Experience with EMIS, GPTR, WCCG, AccRx
