MPS – UPS (£31,650 - £49,084) + TLR 1.2 (£12,038)

A well-established secondary school in Shrewsbury is seeking an ambitious and experienced Head of Science to lead their successful department from September. This role would suit a strong classroom practitioner who already has experience holding a TLR responsibility and is ready to take the next step in their career within a supportive and forward-thinking school.

What’s the role?

• Lead the planning, preparation, resourcing and delivery of the curriculum in Science.  
• Oversee the adaptation of learning to the needs of the students within the subject. 
• Lead the Science team in all aspects of teaching and learning, enabling effective and impactful lessons to be taught to students in Science. 
• Build relationships with students and colleagues and maintain positive learning and working environments 
• Lead the department assessment and recording of students’ work in line with school policy 
• Lead on the use of appropriate data to inform intervention and target setting for students 
• Manage behaviour in accordance with school policy and support the team with behaviour management within the subject 
• Act as a tutor / co-tutor for a form group, including the delivery of PSHE 
• Carry out supervision duties (e.g. at break time) in accordance with the duty rota 
• Report on student progress to parents / carers in line with school calendar 
• Adhere to all school policies and procedures, including those related to safeguarding 

What are we looking for?

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• 2:1 degree or higher in a science related subject (e.g. Physics, Chemistry or Biology)
• Significant experience teaching Science within a secondary school setting
• Previous TLR responsibility experience is essential
• Strong leadership and organisational skills
• Proven ability to raise attainment and support departmental improvement
• Excellent subject knowledge across Science
• Passionate about delivering engaging and inclusive lessons
• Committed to achieving the best outcomes for all students
