Job Summary
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Hatchery Manager to run a small private hatchery, dedicated to supporting and enhancing wild salmon populations within a well-managed private estate.
The successful candidate will bring proven experience in hatchery operations, with a strong understanding of salmon biology and life cycles, supported by either professional practice or academic study. This is a hands-on role requiring both operational oversight and day-to-day management.
Key responsibilities include:
Planning and managing hatchery operations throughout the annual cycle
Monitoring fish health, water quality, and environmental conditions
Ensuring best practice in line with relevant environmental and fisheries guidance
Maintenance and upkeep of all hatchery facilities and equipment
Leading initiatives to support and improve wild salmon stocks
Candidate profile:
Demonstrable experience in fish hatchery management or a closely related field
Sound knowledge of wild salmon ecology and development stages
Practical, self-motivated, and capable of working independently
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
A genuine interest in conservation and the natural environment
