Job Summary
Priory Hospital Chelmsford is looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the team. This is a full‑time (37.5 hours) role.

What you’ll be doing
- Provide senior medical leadership and expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with complex mental health needs within Priory Chelmsford’s inpatient and outpatient services.
- Lead on the development and review of personalised treatment plans, including pharmacological and therapeutic interventions, while ensuring high standards of clinical governance and patient safety.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, offering clinical supervision, leadership, and guidance to support effective care delivery and positive patient outcomes.
- Manage risk, Mental Health Act responsibilities, safeguarding, and crisis interventions in line with regulatory frameworks, Priory policies, and best practice standards.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and professional education while maintaining compliance with GMC standards and continuing professional development requirements.
What you’ll bring to the role
Candidates should be GMC‑registered medical practitioners with Specialist Registration (or eligibility) in Psychiatry and hold Approved Clinician status, with substantial experience in adult mental health, inpatient services, or specialist psychiatric care. Proven expertise in complex psychiatric assessment, risk management, Mental Health Act responsibilities, and multidisciplinary leadership is essential. Strong clinical governance knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead teams while delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care are highly valued, alongside a commitment to CPD, appraisal, and service development.
